2026 Jeep Recon
2026 Toyota C-HR

Safety

The Jeep Recon’s 360-degree camera has integrated front and rear camera washers, ensuring clear, all-weather visibility without the need for manual cleaning. In contrast, the Toyota C-HR lacks camera washers, requiring you to manually clean the cameras for optimal performance.

Both the Recon and the C-HR have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Recon weighs 1746 to 1790 pounds more than the Toyota C-HR. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

There are almost 2 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Toyota dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Recon’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jeep vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jeep above average in initial quality. With 14 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Recon’s brake rotors are larger than those on the C-HR:

Recon

Front Rotors

13.8 inches

12.9 inches

Rear Rotors

12.5 inches

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Recon has larger tires than the C-HR (265/70R18 vs. 235/60R18).

The Recon has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the C-HR; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Recon’s wheelbase is 4.6 inches longer than on the C-HR (112.9 inches vs. 108.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Recon is 3 inches wider in the front and 2.7 inches wider in the rear than on the C-HR.

For greater off-road capability the Recon has a 1.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the C-HR (9.1 vs. 8 inches), allowing the Recon to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The Recon has 17.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the C-HR (111.3 vs. 93.6).

The Recon has 3.2 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front hip room, .6 inches more front shoulder room, 3.1 inches more rear headroom, 6.3 inches more rear legroom, 10.2 inches more rear hip room and 2.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the C-HR.

Cargo Capacity

The Recon has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the C-HR with its rear seat up (30.3 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Recon has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the C-HR with its rear seat folded (65.9 vs. 59.5 cubic feet).

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the Recon. The C-HR doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

The Recon has a 3300 lbs. towing capacity. The C-HR has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Recon uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The C-HR doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Recon’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The C-HR’s power window (except driver window) and power lock switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Recon to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The C-HR doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Recon has a standard rear wiper. The C-HR doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Recon keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The C-HR doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Jeep Recon has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the overhead console. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the C-HR XSE.

The Recon has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The C-HR doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Recon’s Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The C-HR doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
