Both the Ram HD and the F-Super Duty have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Ram’s powertrain warranty covers the HD 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the F-Super Duty. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the F-Super Duty ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the Ram HD has larger alternators than the F-Super Duty:

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Ram HD 2500’s reliability 21 points higher than the F-Super Duty and the Ram HD 3500 is rated 27 points higher than the F-Super Duty.

The Ram HD’s 6.7 turbo diesel produces 25 lbs.-ft. more torque (1075 vs. 1050) than the F-Super Duty’s optional 6.7 turbo V8 diesel.

As tested in Motor Trend the Ram HD is faster than the Ford F-Super Duty 7.3 V8:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Ram HD V8’s fuel efficiency. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Ram HD Gas’ engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Ram HD Long Bed Crew Cab’s optional fuel tank has 2 gallons more fuel capacity than the F-Super Duty Crew Cab’s optional fuel tank (50 vs. 48 gallons).

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Ram HD has a standard Brake Assist System to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The Ram HD’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-250’s optional 65 series tires.

The Ram HD has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Ram HD has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Ram HD flat and controlled during cornering. The F-Super Duty’s standard suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

The Ram HD Power Wagon has an active front sway bar, which helps keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnects at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Ram HD 3500 has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The front grille of the Ram HD uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Ram HD offers available computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Ram HD Crew Cab has .1 inches more front headroom and .4 inches more front hip room than the F-Super Duty Crew Cab.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ram HD Mega Cab’s available rear seats recline. The F-Super Duty’s optional rear seats don’t recline.

The Ram HD offers an optional tailgate assist feature (not available Tradesman), which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. The Ford F-Super Duty doesn’t offer a tailgate assist.

The Ram HD has stake post holes, to allow the containment of tall, light loads. The F-Super Duty doesn’t offer stake post holes.

The Ram HD has an all welded cargo box to eliminate possible corrosion spots and to provide better chassis stiffness. The cargo box in the F-Super Duty is bolted through the bed to the frame with large bolts. These bolts are a prime area for corrosion to start as the normal flexing of the truck’s chassis causes them to eat through the finish; they can also snag cargo as it slides in and out.

The Ram HD’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the F-Super Duty’s (14660 vs. 13800 pounds).

The Ram HD has standard Keyless Go that allows you to start the engine without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Intelligent Access costs extra on the F-Super Duty.

The Ram HD’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the F-Super Duty’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

The Ram HD’s standard side window demisters help clear frost or condensation from the side windows in the winter. The F-Super Duty doesn’t even offer side window demisters, so the driver may have to wipe the windows from the outside to gain side vision.

When the Ram HD with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-Super Duty’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Ram HD’s optional rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The F-Super Duty offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Compared to traditional radio, the Ram HD’s standard SiriusXM satellite radio provides an unmatched listening experience. Its extensive coverage guarantees consistent, crystal-clear reception across the continental U.S., and access to over 100 channels dedicated to a multitude of genres, including music, news, sports, talk shows, and comedy, many with only limited commercial breaks. Satellite radio is only offered on the F-Super Duty Lariat/King Ranch/Platinum.

The Ram HD stands out above the Ford F-Super Duty by offering not one, but two Qi-compatible phone chargers. This convenience helps travelers with multiple devices to keep powered up on-the-go. Wireless charging eliminates lost or cluttered charging cables and two of them provide more flexibility. Both vehicles also offer Qi charging for the rear passengers.

Motor Trend selected the Ram HD as their 2020 Truck of the Year. The F-Super Duty has never been chosen.
